A Foundation of Safe and Affordable Housing

ACHIEVEability is proud to announce that we are receiving a $500,000 grant under the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) of Pittsburgh’s Affordable Housing Program (AHP) with the assistance of PNC Bank, National Association. The announcement was made on July 7th by Congressman Chaka Fattah during an awards ceremony at Depaul House in Philadelphia. This grant is one of seven grants totaling $3 million in affordable housing support to complete more than 400 additional units in the City of Philadelphia.

The $500,000 grant will support ACHIEVEability’s Haddington III project, the re-syndication and preservation of 49 single family homes initially funded with low income housing tax credits and made available to households at or below 50 percent of the West Philadelphia area median income. When the buildings were built in the 1990’s, Haddington I consisted of 21 newly constructed homes used for transitional housing, while Haddington II consisted of 28 rehabilitated homes used for permanent housing. Haddington III will rehabilitate and recapitalize the now combined 49 units to improve their infrastructure and environmental efficiency. The total development cost for Haddington III is nearly $6 million.

Safe and affordable housing is a foundational component of the ACHIEVEability Family Self-Sufficiency Program and the agency is working diligently to finalize approvals and supplemental financing for this project. The AHP grant is critical to helping the agency provide affordable housing for single parent families leaving shelters and other unsafe living conditions.
