MLK Day of Service

ACHIEVEability was proud to participate in the 19th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service. On Monday, January 20, 2014, nearly 50 volunteers from Vanguard, University of Pennsylvania Civic House and McNeil Consumer Healthcare provided their services to help paint and clean 5 homes in preparation for new ACHIEVEability families. This service project was one of more than 1,000 projects taking place in the Greater Philadelphia area with more than 100,000 participating volunteers.

In accordance with Dr. King’s dream of creating communities rooted in freedom, justice, equality, and peace, in 1994 the US Congress established the MLK federal holiday to be a national day of service. ACHIEVEability has been honoring this day over the past several years by working with volunteers to help prepare homes and provide services for families in the program and local West Philadelphia community.

This year's project was a great opportunity to honor Dr. King’s life, work and values through a collective action that can truly help strengthen our Philadelphia community. ACHIEVEability would like to thank all of the MLK Day of Service volunteers who participated in the project.
