Thank You for Supporting Our Backpack and Book Drive

Backpack Donation Drive

Thanks to donors such as Urban Outfitters and Vanguard, the 2013 Backpack and Book Donation Drive was a success. More than 650 backpacks filled with school supplies and new/gently used books were donated to ACHIEVEability.

These donations support the school age children in our Family Self-Sufficiency Program and residents in our local West Philadelphia community. The value of these items totals nearly $14,000.

In addition to Urban Outfitters and Vanguard, backpacks and books were received from the Cradles to Crayons and United Way Backpack-A-Thon, Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill and CoventryCares. We were also pleased to have various individual donors including donations obtained at our Young Friends’ Sip Social & Serve event held in July at Brauhaus Schmitz, which served as the kickoff for this year’s drive.

At ACHIEVEability our focus is education. We know how important it is for children to start off the school year with the appropriate supplies to ensure that they are afforded the opportunities to be successful with their schoolwork. Thanks to all of our donors, we are able to make a positive impact on the families that we serve. It will certainly be a joyous event to see the children in our families select their backpacks in the coming weeks. Community members will be able to pick up bags on a first come, first served basis during the upcoming The State of Our Community event being held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Boys' Latin Charter School.

Other ACHIEVEability donation drives include the Thanksgiving Dinner Drive, Holiday Gift Drive and Winter Coat Drive.
