Honoring Our Volunteers

On Friday, July 29th we hosted our annual Volunteer Recognition Reception, in which we celebrated the enormous commitment of our volunteers, honored our Volunteer of the Year and presented a symbolic check for the value of volunteer services to the City of Philadelphia.

volunteer of the yearOver the past year, 368 volunteers performed 6,691 hours of service for ACHIEVEability and for our local Haddington and Cobbs Creek neighborhoods. As part of this dedication and commitment, our volunteers assisted ACHIEVEability in renovating homes for more than 30 families moving into our program and helped community residents with tax returns, which resulted in over $390,500 in tax refunds.

At the event, we presented community members of Haddington with a check totalling $142,919.76, which represents the value of the volunteer time given in the last year.  Pennsylvania-based financial firm Vanguard was presented with the Volunteer of the Year award for being one of our biggest supporters of volunteer efforts through such projects as the MLK Day of Service, the United Way Day of Caring and a program evaluation project.

ACHIEVEability’s volunteers include large corporations, such as Deloitte, Urban Outfitters, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Vanguard and local faith-based organizations such as Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Looking forward, ACHIEVEability wants to increase volunteer involvement by 10% next year. We have many opportunities for volunteers to get involved such as our Back to School Jam, Thanksgiving food drive and Holiday gift drive. In addition, we are launching a new initiative called Extraordinary Experiences. The goal of this program is to expose ACHIEVEability families to culturally enriching events in the greater Philadelphia area.

ACHIEVEability is grateful for the generosity and the support of our volunteers. Because of our volunteers, we can continue to do the great work we do on a daily basis.
