Thanks for your participation in ACHIEVEability’s adopt-a-FAMILY holiday gift drive!
Sponsors helped make the wishes of over 300 children come true on Saturday, December 13, through their gracious donation of toys, educational games, and sports equipment. These acts of kindness will surely create holiday cheer for all of ACHIEVEability’s sponsors and deserving families alike! We’d like to recognize our major sponsors: Adolor, the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, eWomenNetwork, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropologie.
The party at St. Joseph’s Baptist Church included clients, sponsors, and staff. In keeping with our “Candyland” theme, guests enjoyed cotton candy, snow cones, and a cookie-decorating station.
Our clients and sponsors brought donations to the party to help us raise $441.10 for Aerie, an organization that provides support for orphaned Ethiopian children.
We are grateful to all of those who helped us fill our clients’ homes with food and gifts. However, at this time, your continued support is critical. Given that the current economic climate is so unfavorable, ACHIEVEability needs your help now more than ever. An increasing number of families are jobless, homeless, and in greater need of the housing and self-sufficiency services that we provide. Consider Yalanda’s story. She knows firsthand what it’s like to be a single mother without a home and without hope for the future. And as a client in our program, she knows that ACHIEVEability can provide that hope.
“ACHIEVEability has meant more to me than words can express. Since becoming a part of the ACHIEVEability family I have received my Associates degree and am on my way to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Without the help of the computer center to write my many papers, or tutoring to help me to ace my Chemistry class, or my social worker, who has helped me with many educational as well as personal problems, where would I be right now? Where would my son be right now?
“Prior to coming into PCAH (now ACHIEVEability) my son and I were living in a shelter and I was doing everything that I could to stay in school, maintain good grades, and keep my child happy and safe. That was the hardest time of my entire life. Then I was introduced and soon welcomed into ACHIEVEability which provided me subsidized rent, educational support, emotional support, as well as a network of other women in similar situations to encourage me. ACHIEVEability is there during Thanksgiving to offer food to us, during Christmas with gifts for the children that we may not otherwise be able to buy, and everyday lending a hand in any possible way they can. Where would my family be without ACHIEVEability? I don't even want to think about that. I just thank God for everyone who is a part of this wonderful program in any way. You have no idea how many lives you have changed for the better. Thank you.”
Unfortunately, Yalanda’s troubles are not unique. All of our clients have struggled to support themselves and their families in the face of serious obstacles. However, with your help, ACHIEVEability families can create a better future for themselves. Every dollar you provide to ACHIEVEability goes toward helping us provide housing, education, and support services to our clients.
Please consider making a gift to ACHIEVEability so that we can continue to serve the needs of our families. Your donation is essential to supporting our mission—to break the cycle of poverty for single parent, low-income, formerly homeless families through education, supportive services, community and economic development, housing and accountability.
