Community Initiatives - Achieveability

Haddington-Cobbs Creek Vision 2010

ACHIEVEability is teaming up with the community and the Haddington-Cobbs Creek Community Development Corporation in implementing Haddington-Cobbs Creek Vision 2010: A Plan for Our Future. This comprehensive neighborhood strategic plan is the fruit of the recently completed Haddington-Cobbs Creek Visioning Project, a collaborative effort of residents, local organizations, institutions and community leaders in West Philadelphia. The planning project's primary goals were to develop a comprehensive neighborhood strategic plan focusing on the areas of children and families, economic development, affordable housing and neighborhood building, and to identify and cultivate community leaders. The project was funded by the Wachovia Regional Foundation and co-sponsored by The Partnership CDC, with consulting services provided by Baker and Company LLC. ACHIEVEability is a co-founder and continues to partner with the Haddington-Cobbs Creek Community Development Corporation, whose task is to facilitate the implementation of this comprehensive neighborhood strategic plan.

ACHIEVEability/Haddington-Cobbs Creek Neighborhood Advisory Committee

ACHIEVEability, through its Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) office, teams up with the Haddington-Cobbs Creek community in providing neighborhood residents with resources and information to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and in serving as a conduit for citizen participation in the activities of the Office of Housing and Community Development of the City of Philadelphia. Residents come to the NAC for help with:

  • organizing block clean-ups
  • learning about recycling
  • filing taxes
  • applying for property tax rebates and other benefits
  • reporting abandoned homes with squatters
  • or to learn about publicly-funded initiatives, such as the Basic Systems Repair program, weatherization programs, homeownership and mortgage assistance programs, PHIL, PHIL-Plus and other home improvement programs.

The NAC conducts at least four service area briefings on various topics and publishes quarterly neighborhood newsletters.

The ACHIEVEability/Haddington-Cobbs Creek NAC focuses on serving its neighbors in Census Tracts 81, 82, 83.01, 83.02, 84, 93-96 (the areas roughly bounded by Baltimore Avenue to Vine Street and 54th Street to 63rd Street). It collaborates with neighboring NACs such as the Carroll Park Community Council and the West/Southwest NAC. NACs are funded through the Community Development Block Grant funds of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
