Vanguard volunteers successfully helped ACHIEVEability paint and clean two homes as part of the 18th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service.
On Monday, January 21st more than 30 volunteers from Vanguard, in addition to a few Board Members and ACHIEVEability families, rolled up their sleeves to ready a few homes for new ACHIEVEability families. This project was one of 1,500 projects taking place in Philadelphia on MLK Day with more than 110,000 volunteers.
In accordance with Dr. King’s dream of creating communities rooted in freedom, justice, equality, and peace, in 1994 the US Congress established the MLK federal holiday to be a national day of service. ACHIEVEability has been honoring this day over the past several years by working with volunteers to help prepare homes and provide services for families in the ACHIEVEability program and West Philadelphia community. This year's project, which was a collaborative effort and coming together of our volunteers, parents and children, was an incredible opportunity to honor Dr. King’s life, work and values through a collective action that can truly help strengthen our Philadelphia community.
ACHIEVEability would like to thank all of the MLK Day of Service volunteers who participated in the project on January 21st, as well as recognizing Vanguard for their continued support and participation in the past several MLK Day of Service and United Way Day of Caring projects. ACHIEVEability would especailly like to thank Raphael Trice of Vanguard for his ongoing dedication and commitment to our program. This year's project marked his 5th consecutive year he has served as the project leader.
